What do you guys as entrepreneurs and small business owners want from SEO/Web Dev/Internet Marketing professional

I recently got onto the website Udemy and definitely plan on making a few courses as a means to generate some income and get my name out there(currently working on a book). Before I go any further anything we come up with here will be offered for free to any of Reddit's Entrepreneurs. So my expertise ranges from Web development to seo all the way to internet marketing. I have worked as a freelancer for four years and in a corporate scope for about a year. So any suggestions on appealing classes on that site you'd like to see soon?

It seems like a lot of SEO/PPC/etc talk on certain subreddits assumes the person has a pretty nice budget to work with.
Most people starting their own company, website, whatever, typically don't have much of a budget to work with.
I think a course that focuses on quick and dirty(I don't mean blackhat) ways to get started would be ideal. What has the most bang for the buck and how do I do it?

Ah this one is a nice reply and I already have a course like this in the works but it is related more towards internet marketing as a whole. I will definitely keep this in mind

To answer the question in the title, we want Cheap, Quality, and Immediate Results. But we can choose any two.

Idk why you got down voted so much, but my course is going to focus on the first two: Cheap and Quality. Immediate I don't think I can help you with :/.

[–]bushx 2 points 3 days ago
It's like anything else - fast, cheap, good, choose any two. I think for entrepreneurs focusing on their own SEO, you hit the nail on the head. Inexpensive, white hat SEO is what you should be aiming for.

I don't think anyone in this subreddit actually knows how to SEO.

I don't think that is true at all. There are good SEO subs, especially r/bigseo. I'm sure plenty are subscribed to that as well.
A big issue with SEO is how much it has changed in the last 3 years. It is hard to keep on top of the changes, since they (google at least) change the algorithm so much.
An issue with OP making a udemy course on SEO is that many aspects of it could be redundant/outdated/wrong just within a year of releasing their course.

See I think some people have this element of it all twisted in terms of what you can do that you could do five years ago. Sure SEO changes, I love following the releases of the new versions, but the basics really do stay the same. Making sure your page is cleaned up 100% is still incredibly crucial so validating, isolating H1 tags, deciding to play long-tail versus main approach, clean sitemaps, and many other things. Google plays with their own algorithm but in essence many of the original inner-workings are still there for sure. Thanks for the reply.

I'm currently doing three separate courses on this kind of stuff for small businesses and entrepreneurs. I think the niche experience that I have with it thus far and the need for the help in this area specifically will make it effective. On a scale from 1-10 how in depth do you think the first look at SEO should go in an educational setting?

[–]bushx 2 points 4 days ago
I do all my own SEO, and I think it's a pretty complicated issue that should be approached carefully. The proliferation of black hat SEO and it's acceptance by a lot of online marketing contractors (especially outsourced) can affect a lot of businesses that don't see it coming. An algorithm change can really set back small operations with outsourced contractors who aren't thinking long term. It happened with Panda and Penguin, and it will continue to happen.
One of the problems you inevitably run into is variance based on the niche. What works very well for one market may be ineffective for another, purely based on the amount of competition and content available. I think you'll agree that unique content is paramount, especially considering the algorithm changes that Google works toward, and it can be difficult to be unique among the noise present in a lot of markets.

At this point black hat SEO is linking to your website in a news article. SEO on a local level is extremely easy at the moment. Difficult to rank searches are ignored a bit more, but overall it's quite easy. Most ecommerce searches moved to amazon anyway.
There's no reason not to black hat, just buy links if your site gets killed relaunch it you'll make more that way. Also have a plan for when your site gets killed by google. Facebook, twitter, Yelp are all great sources too.

You should not be selling a Udemy course on SEO.

[–]yellowswagniqqa 1 point 4 days ago
I'm obviously not selling a Udemy course on SEO. I also avoided actually saying anything about SEO much like the people that know what they're doing. This is the main reason that not many people know how to SEO properly.
What do you think blackhat seo is?

[–]bushx 1 point 4 days ago
You mentioned SEO professional in the title, and I'm skeptical of your expertise given your advice so far.
The reason to not invest in black hat SEO is that it's a short term strategy that goes far beyond news articles and makes your organic listings extremely susceptible to algorithm changes. Basically, black hat SEO is a long term zero-sum game.
As far as Amazon, good SEO can outrank Amazon. Nobody serious about their product is dropping the ball when Amazon outranks their organic listing. Amazon is a sales channel, not an endgame. Every product I list on Amazon is outranked by my site, and there's a reason for that. Dropping SEO when Amazon takes over organic listings is just giving up 5-15% of margin for no reason (affiliate fees).

im not op lol
It's also easy to beat amazon in serps. Amazon hurt searches though Google will die over time for shopping there's going to be no reason to use it in the future. Wikipedia for information etc. Just less reason to need to Google things as sites become more specific for a market.
Also if you don't think there's more money to be made in blackhat seo then you're very wrong on the markets.

Sorry, i was out of it and didn't know who I was replying to.
You kinda lost me, could you reword that?
Edit: I read your other comments and I see what you're saying. Yes, the blackhat shit works when you don't need long-term results. Payday loans and dick pills are a different market, fo'sho.

Lol OP here, this reply chain got a little out of control with people thinking it was me! I'll answer some questions you guys kind of alluded to in your postings in the reply chain that is above. Long term SEO is the only way to actually generate significant movement. Sure if you do some basic link building and brighten up your page with things that the search engines like you will see results but the best SEO is long term. For shopping products watch out, while at work recently a buddy of mine and I stumbled on some new things that Google is most likely working on in an effort to marginalize and separate searching as a whole. No solid proof on it just something that seems to be happening that we all first noticed right around the Penguin release.
Blackhat SEO is still a seriously viable market. I try to avoid it and stick to clean and legal techniques according to Google but many do not. I knew of a Fortune 500 company that I was working with at one point whose presence literally evaporated with a change made around January of this year. They were buying links as per the suggestion of some in house guy and their site got destroyed in terms of SERP.
Finally when it comes to beating out Amazon, absolutely you can beat them in rankings and I always advise people to never relinquish that extra 5-15% as mentioned above. Good SEO is long term and once you have given Google, Bing, whatever SE you choose a reason to show you for certain things, they will show you. That is similar to people using outlets such as Bubblews to promote their site. Don't waste efforts with something like when you could be enhancing your own page with a blog with the same content. Comes down to people wanting answers to problems over night. It won't really happen.

The problem with SEO is that its just another branch of internet marketing, but you'll need to know a few other parts of it. SEO is more expensive to do it quickly unless you're hacking/using a few bugs to instantly rank sites.
Most small business owners just end up having to local SEO then you don't actually need to know much; just citation spam and wave your arms around. 5 page site ranking in a few months throw in stars and gg.
It's better if you just teach ad networks and onsite conversion testing.
Also most small business owners don't really know anything about websites and just manage a small shop. I'm not sure how you'll be converting them considering there are a million courses that teach the same stuff you're talking about out there.

[–]moralitypts 1 point 4 days ago
In my experience, good SEO is always long term SEO. Anything that is immediate is typically a short term solution and should be scrutinized like crazy.

[–]yellowswagniqqa -1 points 4 days ago
Your experience is probably very limited.

[–]moralitypts 1 point 4 days ago
3 years, really limited I suppose. However, the method my former company employed didn't involve the risk of getting slapped by Google, but I guess it's up to everyone to decide whether that's worth the short term benefits to get some of that sweet, sweet black hat results. I got out of the SEO game because I found it boring and basically contrary to the way things are heading (or at least the way Google wants it to be, i.e. less gaming, less fluffy landing pages that are just trying to build links, etc.)

SEO is different for every company.
Payday loans for example each site can pull in about 20k/week easy just keep pumping and dumping every month. Viagra is huge, but that market is insane to get in. There are tons of ways to doing it.
It varies on your tools, competition and other things to say what you need to do. If you get a few mil investment money and can bait articles to what you need sure if not just buy links, chances are you dont lose and have a backup plan.

Meh. Most.

I wouldn't bother with SEO, it changes quite often and all resources are readily available online. Most of the time from the Search Engine itself. Adding to the pool of the hundreds of thousands of SEO "Experts" is not something you want to do in my eyes. I don't like being spammed or told a PR1 site is not optimized...
Internet marketing on the other hand is actually a skill that I think a lot of people are interested in. Actual methods you have used and little tips on the social media aspects are very interesting. I'd read about that for sure.

Cool cool. I hate the term SEO expert so I tried to make it seem less detrimental by saying professional. I actually used to work as a software engineer so I had a lot of exposure to that side of it all first. I also hate when people tell me that a PR1 site is not optimized. I will definitely show some of the internet marketing things then, especially some of the methods we used over the summer. All in all I am just trying to gauge interest because I do want to write a book on something related to this field(working on one for web marketing for entrepreneurs) and I think internet marketing could be the way to go. Thanks for your reply.
